On August 5, 1995, Taekwondo Day was proclaimed here by Washington State Governor Mike Lowry. At that time, there was no Taekwondo Day anywhere in the world. Of course, there was no Taekwondo Day in Korea. I devoted six months to this work. A question for many state house of representative was, why should a day for Taekwondo practitioners be established and publicized when there are many different martial arts practitioners here in Washington state. I prepared various official documents to persuade them, and 22 people from the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team were also invited to celebrate the ceremony. The event was held in the Pacific Lutheran University Pavilion with a capacity of 3,000 people. This event was reported more in various media in Korea than in Washington state.
However, my name was nowhere to be found in the Korean media. Only here in the Washington state local Korean media was treated about my name and events. I've done a lot of good things for Koreans since then, but it's always been the same. My father told me before he died. Do your job for you. However, I did not listen to my father’s words and became the president of the Tacoma Korean American Association, and in four months, I finished the remodeling of the Korean American Association building, which previous presidents had not been able to do for the past 20 years. I will certainly hear complaints from them again because of this. As I prepare for the executive meeting this morning, I think of my father's words.
